i've got grins enough for the whole lot o' you

look!
briana drew me a picture.
and also, angela drew me a whole journal page.
they made me grin.
and i will show you how:

and i had like a jabillion other reasons for grinning today too.
i found jeans, on sale for like [what's 10 dollars out of 50?] percent off,
and i ate the best panini you've ever even heard of,
and i just made this freakishly delicious peanut butter pecan ice cream cake thing with a LOT of butter in it,
and the root beer float flavored ice cream was on sale for THREE DOLLARS, so i bought a tub of that.
[why is it that those guilty-pleasure ice creams are on sale when i'm in a good mood, but never when i need to drown my sorrows in 1175 calories of cream?]
and maybe the best thing was something a lot less superficial and something that might take too long to explain, but was just really really good.
you can take my word for it.

anyway. there's me, grinning like an idiot.
and we're on our way to a bbq now and it's thundering and raining outside and there's probably mosquitos and a bit of lightning too and i'll probably get wet and bit and hit but i don't even care.

it's one of those days.

a joy and fume-induced post

REJOICE WITH ME!!!
are you rejoicing with me? you'll have to be fairly obvious about it, as i can't hear you.

rejoiceful reason number one:

barclay invested in three mighty-sized cans of SPIDER BLASTER and today he SPIDER BLASTED those 20-million-legged freaks in the basement [otherwise known as sow bugs] to kingdom come!
i'm feeling soooo rejoiceful right now.
my husband is a manly-centipede-killing-machine.

but i have a headache from the fumes and we are going to have to vacate our house for the evening.
oh well!

rejoiceful reason number two:

i have a new eco-friendly telephone.

ta-da! see how green it is?
AND.
it takes better pictures than my camera.
[this is not saying much.]

rejoiceful reason number three?

well, you think of one how about.
let me know.
i'll rejoice with you.
i'm a good rejoicer.

the obligatory weekend summary post

my weekend faired on the side of most good.
i threw a party for shlee, rode around in the back of marty's van sprawled out on bean bag chairs listening to vince guaraldi's Christmas music on tape, went to guzz's 80th birthday party where a very nice elderly woman swore at me, got my first sunburn of 2010, and listened to a good amount of louis armstrong while baking cookies.
and now i'm in need of some gratuitous amounts of shut-eye. but first, i'm sitting here desperately guzzling liquids of all sorts.
in the morning, i will wake up in so much pain that i can barely sit up as my over-full bladder fills my tummy like a hot water bottle.
[i did this last night, and the night before--
it's not that i never learn; i'm just so thirsty.]
i can't decide if i would rather go to bed thirsty, or wake up waterlogged.
so i'm going to do as so many others these days and do what feels good right now, here in this moment, and worry about the consequences tomorrow.
i feel a life lesson coming on...

love-sick

i'm in a romantic mood today. being sick does that to me.
i LOVE being sick.
no, i don't like the leaky face, or the achy belly, or even the helium head.
but.
i love how, when i got home from work yesterday, i didn't even stick my key in the lock and the door swung open, and there was barclay, and he pulled me in and gave me a hug and a hot water bottle and there was a nest of blankets on the couch and imogen heap spinning in the cd player and home-made barley soup in a nice big bowl waiting for me. still steaming.
and i love how he carries me around and kisses my sweaty hair and wipes the mascara from under my eyes.
and i love how he just sits with me for hours on end and makes sure my hair doesn't get on my face [because it might tickle my eyes and wake me up] while i'm passed out with my head in his lap.
and i love how this morning when i woke up, i looked like a raccoon and a drowned rat and a disoriented drunk all at once and he still kissed my forehead and said, "you are such a babe."
i could maybe write an essay about how much i love being sick.
but maybe it would end up being more about how much i love barclay.

anyways. here is a very cute video to go along with my very sappy post.

oh! and a house! can't forget the house.

house hunting

today, i was going to write a super post, and then i didn't.
because i went to buy some bread and some new grey tights [see previous post], and then i was overcome with an urge to take pictures of houses, so i took 45 pictures of houses. they turned out nice, i think. maybe i will edit some of them and share them.
but anyways, as i was walking down the street, carrying my bread and tights and taking pictures of houses, i came upon some young men busking, trying to make some money. they were all three playing tubas. it was nice.
so i set myself down on the side of the street, basking in the warm glow of the summer sun [i skipped spring this year], listening to the melodious tuba music, fresh bakery bread tucked under my arm, glancing through my house pictures instead of writing a super post, and you'll just have to forgive me for that.
but i wouldn't take it back, because it was a really great afternoon.
house pictures to follow. and one of three tuba-players. and one of a little chinese girl named theresa.

there might be a cheaper way to do this

i go to the gym now. because now, the gym isn't just for getting in shape. if that were the case, no way would i go. getting in shape in and of itself is pretty not fun.
no, they have tv at the gym. and i don't have tv at home.
so i'm getting in shape, i suppose. but i can't run too fast because the head phones fall out of my ears. i've joined the bootless army of chubby old women who go to the gym and walk on the treadmill at an annoyingly slow pace just so they can watch rich bride, poor bride and, come suppertime, eat five pieces of dessert.
and i like it.
