from the passenger seat

this weekend found me in one of my favorite places: the passenger seat

contentedly snapping pictures with my cheap camera phone through a window covered in bug guts.

skyscrapers, sunsets, prairies, city lights

barclay drove.

we listened to our favorite cds

and played trivial pursuit

and sometimes i wished i had a nice camera

but i kind of like crappy cell phone pictures
and bug guts

I roll the window down

And then begin to breathe in
The darkest country road
And the strong scent of evergreen
From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.

Then looking upwards
I strain my eyes and try
To tell the difference between shooting stars and satellites
From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.

"Do they collide?"
I ask and you smile.
With my feet on the dash
The world doesn't matter.

"passenger seat" - death cab for cutie

AWESOME as usual. Love Death Cab. And. Furthermore. The best camera, SAY IT WITH ME, is the one you have with you.

haha, "the best camera is the one you have with you."
well good. because in the blogosphere everyone has all these expensive cameras and they can take nice pictures and i'm putterin along with my cell phone. i feel like the hunchback of notre dame at a beauty pageant. oh well!

Love these pictures, bug guts and all. There is nothing like a road trip. =)

Although the pixel quality of expensive cameras is better, it's more about the person BEHIND the camera than the camera itself. I think you take lovely photos.

Where did you go?

Suzy, everyone has a different idea of what their photos should be. With my large ego, I need something amazing, expensive and it has to give something that steals my breath. But your photos are superb. They fit you perfectly and frankly, I think your eye and creativity may change for the worse if you spent hundreds, even thousands on a camera.

Who's looking at bug guts? I just see the sunset at your fingertips! I love the photos and the lyrics. It's all so beautiful and inspiring.

No. Stop it. That Death Cab song is my favorite of all time. If I close my eyes and listen to it, I can smell country air and feel cold wind through rolled down windows and see the sun setting on the horizon.

I was going to say, "How come your crappy phone camera takes better car pics through guts splattered windows, then my normal camera?" but then I kept scrolling and saw the guts splattered all over your pics too and I felt better.

steven: good on you for noticing. i was wondering if people would actually even look at them closely or long enough to notice.
jen glen: hahaha...yeah. not such a great camera. but oh well! it captures some semblance of a memory, and that's enough for me.
